The Teatro de la Zarzuela is the first and only theatre devoted to zarzuela – Spanish traditional musical theatre genre, hence the name. With its three-level horseshoe form it is replicating the ‘La Scala’ theatre in Milan and was opened to the public on the 10th October 1856, the birthday of Queen Isabella the second.
