Sala Equis

Sala Equis has a great history that is worth sharing: A former neoclassic mansion which used to house the liberal newspaper El Imparcial. In 1941 it opened it’s doors to the public as a movie theater which was convereted in the 1980s into the Cine Duque de Alba, a ‘Sala x’ (x-rated cinema). It operated almost 30 years until it was forced to close in 2015 and reopened once again after renovation by Madrid-based architectural practice PLANTEA with a new purpose. Today, Sala Equis is a multifunctional cultural space with three different areas. The Terraza de Entrada is a large corridor which is the main space for discussions and gatherings. The Sala Plaza the epicentre is a covered patio, illuminated by the day light and in the evening by red light neons that will remind you of its sexy past. Here you will be able to enjoy a great selection of drinks and food and sit around on one of the wooden benches, deck chairs and swings. Finally, you have the Sala Cine, the cinema room with 55 seats used for movie screenings, concerts, musicals and theatre performances.
