Reina Sofía Museum

The Reina Sofía Museum is housed in the 18th century general hospital. Turned into the Spain’s national museum in 1992 it hosts permanent collection of art by Spanish painters such as Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. in 2015, the french architect Jean Nouvel added two panoramic glass lifts on the outside of the facade and gave it its unique look.The exhibition has three sections: ‘The Irruption of the 20th Century. Utopia and Conflict (1900-1945)’; ‘Is the War Over? Art in a Divided World (1945-1968)’ and ‘From Revolt to Postmodernity (1962-1982)’. The biggest attraction yet is the painting by Picasso’s “Guernica”. Today, it is part of the ‘Golden Triangle of Art’ with Prado and the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum.
