Hotel Barceló Torre de Madrid

The Hotel:
The Hotel Barceló Torre de Madrid is housed in the iconic concrete skyscraper Torre de Madrid. The building has dominated the Madrid skyline since 1957 and for a long time held the record for the “tallest tower in the world”. Renowned Spanish designer Jaime Hayón designed the hotel with playful artwork. As a guest, you’ll be surprised by zebra-striped bear sculptures wearing a top hat and cartoon masks in the corridors. Jaime Hayón uses a palette of jewel and berry tones with gold details for the interior design. The hotel has an incredible view of Madrid from the floor-to-ceiling windows in the rooms as well as the pool on the eighth floor. In addition, the hotel has a sauna and spa area with Ayurvedic treatments.

For international guests, the hotel offers mobile internet devices to use while exploring the city.

The Location:
The hotel is located in the heart of Malasaña and around the corner from the Plaza de España bus stop. Within 10 to 15 minutes walk you can reach the Royal Palace, Casa de Campo and the Conde Duque Cultural Centre. The hotel is around the corner from my three favourite coffee shops: Toma Café, Misión Café and HanSo Café.

The Rooms:
This hotel is one of the largest on my list with 258 rooms and suites. The rooms have beautiful wooden floors and large windows, many with spectacular views of Madrid. I especially recommend room 519 with a wrap-around balcony. The designer Jamie Hayón has not only designed the hotel but also some of the furniture, meaning the style of the hotel is consistent through to the rooms and furniture.

The Restaurant and Bars:
The breakfast offers healthy options such as smoothies in addition to the classic continental dishes. The Somos restaurant offers another beautiful view of Madrid. The suites and premium rooms also have a private lounge area with drinks and snacks.
